The following are lists of soldiers born in Sunderland that were killed on the first day of the Battle of the Somme on the 1^st of July 1916.  The lists only include those soldiers born in Sunderland, soldiers with records that do not include their place of birth that were registered as being a resident of Sunderland are not included and soldiers that enlisted in Sunderland where there is no place of birth and where the place of residence is not included in their records are also not included.

This list also does not include soldiers of outlying areas such as Hetton, Houghton, Murton and others areas on the outskirts of Sunderland.
